Largest Poker Tournament for a Childrenâs Hospital in the U.S. Returns on October 29
New York, NY (September 25, 2014) â The annual “All In” for Kids Poker Tournament, the largest charity poker tournament benefiting a major U.S. childrenâs hospital, will be held at the Mandarin Oriental New York on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.
âAll Inâ for Kids is part of the World Poker Tour Foundationâs⢠Playing for a Better World⢠series of charity poker events, which helps raise awareness and critical funds for non-profit programs through live charity poker tournaments around the globe. This celebrated event benefits The Childrenâs Hospital of Philadelphia® (CHOP), the No. 1 pediatric hospital in the country as ranked by both U.S. News & World Report and Parents magazine.
âThis is an exceptional event and we are delighted to once again partner on it with the WPT Foundation,â said Steven M. Altschuler, M.D., CHOPâs chief executive officer. âWhile our young patients come to CHOP from all around the world, we treat thousands of children from right here in New York City, making this event even more special.â
The tournament, hosted at the magnificent Mandarin Oriental New York which overlooks Central Park, was co-founded in 2008 by Daniel Shak, a businessman and semi-professional poker player. CHOP is hosted for the seventh consecutive year by poker legend Phil Hellmuth, Jr., who will be joined by WPT Anchor Lynn Gilmartin and WPT Commentator Vince Van Patten. Season IX WPT Player of the Year Andy Frankenberger and top professional Vanessa Selbst will also be in attendance, along with Hospital trustees, donors, and grateful families for an exciting and memorable evening. This yearâs presenting sponsor is The Tioga Foundation.
WPT President Adam Pliska adds, âIn my recent visit with Lynn and Vince, we witnessed firsthand the remarkable work being done by the caring and devoted staff of the Childrenâs Hospital of Philadelphia. CHOPâs dedication to the quality of life of children of all ages is admirable and profound, and WPT Foundation is honored to support a legacy at CHOP that consists of more than 150 years of providing ground-breaking and personal health care to young people.â
To date, the tournament has raised nearly $ 5 million for lifesaving work done at CHOP. This yearâs featured beneficiary is Food Allergy Research at CHOP. Past beneficiaries include the Hospital’s Center for Autism Research and Care, the Center for Childhood Cancer Research, the Division of Neurosurgery, the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment, and the Palliative Care Program.
